Kinda doubt that a ManPad would actually bring one down with a single hit, though I haven’t read that book so it might be multiples.
Zef and komenda,
The Su 27 series are good airframes though their wings are optimized for lower speeds. Historically it’s the energy not the angles bubba who wins, with the caveat that the ROE allows one to take advantage of the situation. They also appear to have durability and reliability issues with their engines. Good combat persistence from the perspective of numbers of A-A missiles and they have better guns than the U.S. does. Not so sure about combat persistence in regards to fuel, though it’s better than a Fulcrum. The Russians make the best ejection seats in the world. Russian avionics/electronics are behind the Western world.
I’d like to fly one.
