The Russians have some talented pilots, they are even more hampered by a need for controls that the professional staff types can understand/control with, lack of flight time, and the fact that warfare is truly a team situation.
Note we are also hampered by the above to lesser and greater extents. Not flying as much to train as 12-15 years ago, greater communications ability means greater interference and input from lawyers, etc. producing non-sensical ROEs that at best greatly reduce our advantages. Even among services, look at how the squids flying Tomcats were forced into an USAF box that negated the advantages of the Tomcat/Phoenix/Naval aviator advantages.
