I was there two weeks ago and at the 10 AM tour you could have just showed up, there were plenty of extra headphones. They show final assembly, leather cutting gluing and engine assembly. No painting or bodywork.
The Porsche tour/museum is free. Also in Stuttgart is the Mercedes museum which is 8 euros (4 if you have a student id). When the Porsche museum is complete (lots of finishing work left) I bet it will be a money making enterprise like Mercedes.
The BMW museum in Munich is pathetic and I think cost 2 euros. The BMW factory tour was 6 euros (3 if you have a student id).
