Historic Quote

I'll have to look up the exact quote when I get home, but it seemed appropriate on the board today.

During the 1st Congress, there were discussions about a clause in what is now the 2nd amendment to allow people of moral conviction to abstain from military service in the militia. The issue:

"We all know that religion is in decline (1789!) and we cannot but expect that men with no religion will claim to object to military service on religious moral grounds."

I find it funny that in 1789, religion was on the decline in America, and EVERYONE knew it and agreed.
