Take heart; you and others of your mindset can have your way - if you have the numbers. No one has taken away your vote (yet )./quote]

No sarcasm meant. Majority rules, use your vote, is all I'm saying there.

Dude, you need to chill out.

I'm honestly bemused by that comment. I had no idea that I was coming across as heated, just voicing my opposition to your point of view.

This part of your post is sort of indicative of many liberals, which is that if I disagree with you I must be some kind of hate mongering, racist, xenophobe.

Whoa! You're coming out of left field with that one. No WAY did I say that! Dude, YOU need to chill if you really have that impression of me. You don't peg everybody who disagrees with you as a Liberal, do you? I rather see myself as attempting to be analytical as oppposed to liberal. Batting 0 here, eh?

I supprt the country helping those who truly need help as much as anybody.

I won't call you on that, but I do get the impression that you might be quicker to jump to judgment than I am.

I used to own a house in a not so good part of LA and when I was studying for grad school on Friday nights, the "boys" were out drinking and howling at the moon, the same boys who claim they are held back by the Man.

You'll perhaps understand that I'm not particlularly impressed by that one way or the other since I came back from Viet Nam and, with the aid of the G.I. Bill and a supportive wife, worked on the back of city garbage trucks with other motivated college guys during the summers and parked cars on weekend midnight shifts at a big hotel during the school year for four years of undergrad and two years of grad school - so what? I was WAY too occupied to even think about "the "boys" were out drinking and howling at the moon, the same boys who claim they are held back by the Man". Never saw it as a sacrifice or particularly unusual.

When I mentioned the part about the women living in subsidized housing for 50 years you completely blew that off.

No, I didn't at all - It's just that I've heard so many similar anecdotes intended to portray an overall picture - stereotyping, to be precise.

Go back and see what you've done in 50 years if your that old, (Oh, I'm older) or for that matter, any of your friends (Oh, my friends for the most part have done o.k. too).

See above. And, not that it's important, I also lived in a couple of VERY tough neighborhoods in SD back then. Again, so what?

Yeah, yeah, I know I'm generalizing about someone that I know nothing about.

Yeah, yeah, you are.

But 50 years in subsidized housing and three kids, just how much do I need to know.

Apparently knowing that much is sufficient for you - I'm not arguing that point at all. You will surely admit, however, that there is a recognized discipline called sociology (which has absolutely nothing to do with "Socialism" - and I am neither a sociologist nor a socialist), the practitioners of which attempt to understand the root causes for great disparities in societies, which if left to grow, severely damage the society as a whole - that's including you and me both, brother.

What, they didn't mention that she has Downs Syndrome or something?

Would that make a difference?

We do be different - that's the beauty of the American way, eh?

Peace,

..
