I pull out of the way to the right (so I have my left mirror to see traffic with) and attach my helmet. I look in the mirror and go out to the track.
So that is when I hook onto the helmet.
When I come in, as I exit into the pits, I yank the quick releases so I can pivot my head and see around the paddock as I enter. Willow Springs requires you to exit and then do a 180 to come into the pits, I HATE not being able to look around and see where I am heading so I would yank the quick releases just as I came in and got slowed down. (I miss that track BTW )
The HANS should work similarly, so I would recommend trying that. I only need the R3 on the track

Smart approach... and Willow Springs was the track I was at!
Maybe the quick releases are a good idea...
