One of the common subjects in the performance forums is how much HP is enough? These days an average working Joe can afford HP that was almost unheard of 25 years ago, so plenty of opinions are around from guys who drive anything from 200 rwhp to around 800 rwhp as a street car. Power to weight ratio seems the best way to compare different cars.

1:15 makes for a generally frisky, not too dangerous car. Stock old Mustand, Stock old 928 etc.

1:10 is a fast car, generally as fast as any normal production car, spinning tires in 1st and 2nd off the throttle.

1:8 spanks most normal cars, hits 100 mph as fast as many get to 60, traction a full time issue.

1:6 A beast, race car fast.

1:4 more than most drivers or highway situations will allow.

There was of course no consensus on best p/w, but the average was between 1:6 and 1:8, for ideal power in a street car. You can hit that range pretty easy with 383 (stroked 350) in a 928 and its easiest, cheapest motor to swap, most swap parts and support etc.

I think a major portion of what makes a sports car a sports car is lost when there are no practical situations where it would ever be a good idea to have the steering wheel turned even slightly under full power.
