Well I am going to call it a day. I tried the paperclip thing from 30 to 86 on the relay pushed onto the socket, honked the horn, and got a nice wiff of fried plastic. I obviously have no clue what I am doing, in spite of everyone's best efforts.
I'll try to get the right relay and 3 wire socket next week and post the results. It was nice to hear my horn work for the first time earlier today - even if it was continuous.
