Yes, the owner who "built" the car lived in SoCal, but the car has since seen some further work to bring it to its current state. As always, these things are a work in progress.

If so, you should check with your insurance company and see if you can get a payment for diminished value because of the theft. Because if the title gets branded, the value of the car will be hurt, even if no damage was done to the car.
Yes, I'm fairly sure it will be branded as salvage unfortunately. that's a great idea though, I'll definitely ask because my coverage is quite good so they may just be willing to work with me on this.
