I think the old 1911's didn't have a firing pin block, but the new ones do. All SIG's have them. It basically prevents the firing pin from moving unless the trigger is pulled. So dropping it cocked and locked wouldn't cause an AD on newer guns, but it would be possible on older ones. I may be wrong here. Depends on the brand and age of the 1911.
