3.2 hanging throttle
So Marcus' 1988 Euro clubsport developed an annoying and intermittent habit of not coming down the idle when the throttle is closed gently. Think coming to rest at a stoplight. The idle hangs around 2000 - 2500 rpm.
I thought I fixed it when I found the throttle body very very loose on the manifold - Hey problem solved ! But no, it's never the obvious, after a short test drive it was apparent that the problem was still there and the rattling throttle body was having no affect on peformance ?!?
I popped the decklid during a hanging idle event, and verified that the throttle arm was dead against it's stop - confirming that this is defintely not a linkage issue. A very light application of pressure to the throttle arm, towards it's stop, and boom - nice even 800 rppm idle.
So, I'm guessing the microswitch which makes when the throttle closes is flaky - easy enough to swap out I'd think...but nope. The microswitch is riveted to (working from memory here) the frame which holds the throttle linkage together.
Has anybody dealt with this issue already?
Sorry - can't get any pics up because the car's not close to my camera.
