What is your favorite political quote of all time?

Actaully, I have three that top the list of my favorites. Here they are in no particular order of importance or sense!

The first is by Adlai Stevenson who most of the kids on this board probably never heard of. He was a man of impeccable character and morals along with having a great wit. Naturally, he lost twice in bids for the presidency.

Once after an election Stevenson was asked by a dimwit reporter what he thought of how the people had voted. Stevenson paused for only an instant and replied:

"Your public servants serve you right!"

The second one is by Mark Twain and needs no introduction:

"Suppose you were an idiot and suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself."

And last is one by Ronald Reagan, the guy who is invoked at every opportunity by the GOP frontrunners in this years' primary. (they must not be aware of what Reagan's record really was)

President Reagan was asked if nuclear war could be limited to tactical weapons and Ronnie was not able to get his handlers to write something for him so he relied:

"Well, I would---if they realized that we---again if---if we led them back to that stalemate only because that our retaliatory power, our seconds, or strike at them after our first strike, would be so destructive that they couldn't afford it, that would hold them off."

It is just a rumor that after hearing what President Reagan had said 5 of his aides collapsed and everyone in the room developed a headache!
