You fellows seem to be missing the point. I did not post that as some some of indictment of the GOP while giving the Dems a free pass.
Yes, Senators Byrd and Reid are among the worst. And Pelosi often seems simply stupid. In fact, Reid to me is particularly bad. He probably has more lobbyists around the table when the Reid's have a family gathering than most of will ever meet in lifetime. I think that his wife and a couple of his kids or their spouses are lobbyists. That's borderline criminal to me.
But what does any of that have to with Stevens? Let me give you a little tip: when the only argument you have against what someone is doing or has done is that there are other people equally bad or worse...then you have both a weak argument and a lame position.
Especially you GOP backers who use as your yardstick the very people that you so despise. If you would stop and think about it...you might see how absurd that is.
Now, let's get back on subject...since none of the questionable politicians you mention have near the ethics or corruption issues that Sen. Stevens does. And very few of them had pictures of FBI agents carrying evidence out of their homes.
A recent report for 2006 indicated that Alaska led the nation with $489 per capita and it was less than half of Alaska’s 2005 per capita number of $985. Guess why? "Alaska’s drop can be attributed to Sen. Ted Stevens’ (R-Alaska) descent from the throne as Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman." Thus my point.
And you are corrct about Sen. Coburn. He and that Jeff Flake guy who is a GOP member of the House from AZ are among a very small group in Congress that are trying to clean up the mess that the old time scum like Byrd, Stevens, Inouye, Burns, Reid, etc etc etc have created. What they do per earmarks may not be illegal...but it sure as hell is not honest or moral.
