There is virtually no chance that Paul could ever be elected because whether we want to admit it or not, as our political/electoral process has evolved (or would the correct word be bastardized) we do in fact have a two party dictatorship in our nation.
If the greatest and wisest leader of all time entered into USA national politics he would have zero chance of succeeding unless he locked up with either the GOPor the Dems. And once he did that he would slowly but certainly lose most of the qualities that made him wisest/greatest. That's the reaity of it unless we somehow change the current mess.
However, it would be extremely interesting to see exactly who Ron Paul would appoint to the various critical agencies in contrast to the mostly political pay-off type people that the GOP and Dems normally appoint.
