I know this topic gets brought up every so often, but I just finished watching the final round of the Mazda MX-5 Cup at Miller Motorsports Park in UT and I was bummed at all the banging going on. Am I a complete wuss? The announcers said a few times that Miller is the widest track they race on all year with passing zones at basically every corner - there are 23 corners by the way. I know Miller fairly well as I've run about a dozen DE days there. I really dislike the "rubbin' is racing" saying. Does clean racing exist - did it ever? Do these guys pay for their cars themselves? I know car racing is not for those w/shallow wallets - even DEs can get expensive very quickly. These guys aren't racing for much prize money nor fame - I mean can anyone name a single Mazda MX-5 Cup racer, let alone the champion from the last 3 years?
I've only made it to one PCA club race - 2 years ago at Miller. It seemed fairly clean, but there were still a few banged up cars at the end of the weekend. Is there such a thing as gentleman's racing? Am I just a complete ninny - you won't hurt my feelings if you say I am!
