I worked part-time at a gas station for a while when I lived down there; I do recall that the store sold 24 and 40-ouncers, as well as the standby 12-ounce variety of beer individually, kind of like you'd find with soda cans - for immediate consumption. .

We still have drive thru package stores, but I have seen them sell a
"Set-Up" for a while now. Yes, they still sell the 40s, but it isn't generally rednecks buying & drinking them
