An interesting thread. I have raced a few PCA Club races-- none since 2004, and I think in general they do a pretty good job.

Our group, the Porsche Racing Club, races under NASA sanction, and I have to say we have what I consider a top-notch culture. And we do not have a 13/13 rule. As we have grown through the past five years, the culture has remained pretty much the same.

I have watched the Porsche Super Cup on TV for years. I was actually in Estoril in 1996 and watched Kenny Brack runnin a pcar. The bangin' is just part of the culture to some extent-- part of the show. That is pro racing, and a lot of the drivers are europros, not playboys. The close pcar racing goes all the way back to the 944 and 951 days-- I have some recordings of fun TV shows which showed the '87 and '88 Rothman's series and there was very close racing in the 951s.

To me you cannot compare amateur cultures to pro cultures. And you cannot assume that spec racing leads uniformly to bumping and rubbing-- our Spec 911 series has proven that.

I have a lot of friends that run or have run Miatas, and most love/have loved the close racing, but it is not for everyone. Just like pcar racing is not for everyone.
