Are all those property taxes, income taxes and sales taxes going to New York City? The answer is no. Not at all. The reverse is true - the downstate counties including Long Island and Westchester are paying bills all over the state.. The amount of welfare, over funded schools and public health expenditures up-state is amazing. The problem is - they can't afford it, but are forced to raise the tax monies and spend them.
There is no taxing your way into prosperity - and up-state New York is the poster child for that kind of thinking..
