I've recently been doing some research on flywheels, and from what I've found the difference between the early SC (78-79) and the later SC (80-83) is in the type of pilot bearing used. The early SC pilot bearing must be pressed on to the flywheel, whereas the later one is attached with 3 bolts. The biggest difference between the SC flywheel and the early (pre-87) Carrera flywheel is the teeth used for the DME reference signal. If you're using carbs or some other ignition that is driven by a crank pulley sensor then you should be fine with a SC flywheel. The pelican catalog shows the same pilot bearing part number for 80-86 911 (later SC to early Carrera).
