I WAS in the auto repair business. I've got stories, like how do you tell this kindly elderly person "The gas tank was empty", or the struggling single parent, "You have to put the chip in when you start it." We give the customer the bill and then they RAGE. I mean rage! As for the doddering mechanic , we know who they are, we get their work and they get weeded out. The other reason I got out was the low pay. Was I amazed when I found out how much I would be taking home.

The auto repair industry has been under scrutiny for a while. They came up with the ASE program. The friendly neighborhood mechanic is gone, replaced with Mr. Goodwrench, Fast Lube Techs, et al.

My advice when you're looking for a service is, when you find "good" service to "pay for good service". Think of the straight 15% waitress or that extra 5% waitress.

When I read about people *****ing about shoddy work I just think, "I want the same waitress, even though the server smokes a cigar and has tatoos".
