WRX would be a fun ride. I'd try to buy one from an individual, so you could assess what kind of owner/driver he was. Before you go too far down that road, be certain you price insurance on one. The popularity of those cars with the Fast/Furious crowd has made insurance rates pretty painful, especially for single college guys.

Mazda 3 is a great car. My in-laws have a base model automatic, and it's still fun to drive. Smooth responsive motor, good steering feel and weight, and controlled ride. The 2.3S with a manual is supposed to be a lot of fun. Interior quality is almost Audi-like, very high quality. Great resale value too, always a plus.
