Bought a Hella horn, OEM part for my 911 awhile ago. In two years, it filled with water it was so badly sealed and was junk. Official "German" Hella junk.
Went to Home Depot (regrettably) to buy a new shower head the other day. They had about 30 models on display for prices that ranged from low two digits to well into three--Moen, Delta, Gerber, Kohler, all the tried-and-true names. I chose one for about $50 and quickly saw it was "Made in China." Oh, wait, I don't want that. Well, they were _all_, literally, made in China, I discovered, so now I have a Chinese showerhead.
The day I see a photo of the interior of a clean, shiny, high-tech, well-organized Chinese factory staffed by people in white coats or clean uniforms, I'll buy the Chinese-workmanship-is-fine argument. Unfortunately, all I've ever seen is dirt-floored horrors so smoke-filled you can't see 50 feet, with ancient belching machinery and flames and sparks everywhere, staffed by guys sitting around on their hunkers alternately eating rotten fish from ricebowls and spitting lungers into the dirt.
