Speaking of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, they obviously pay a huge tribute in their music to this guy, and the countless nameless* drummers that have played in is oh-so-tight bands over the last 45+ years!
I got to see one of his concerts at "The Channel" in Boston back in the 80's. He was already getting up in the years, but played 45 minutes of every hour from 9:00 PM until about 3:00 AM, in spite of the fact that bars stop serving 1:45 and generally closed in Boston at 2:00 AM. I loved how his show was a 3-ring-circus the whole time, just like Parliament/Funkadelic would do in the 70's.
