Lots of my favourite players are real 'less is more' kinda guys. Ed Thigpen for example: a jazz genius. Peterson's 'Night Train' is just the best.

You would expect a nice bass player to work with nice drummers, and Sting has had some good ones. Drummers playing old Police songs are my favourites. Good old Stewart, solid as a rock and still an inspiration all these years later, then Omar, then Vinne - Vinnie had me in tears of joy at the Albert Hall in '96, his playing is epic. Met them all backstage afterwards, I was awestruck, totally speechless (not to mention hoarse). Here's Omar being interesting on 'Burn for You':
