Easy there Mule, sometimes these "national holidays" are useful.
I always observed MLK day in college..... it made for a nice 3 day weekend for us to take our annual fraternity/sorority ski trip on. Seems as though many others felt the same way as the slopes were always PACKED on those weekends.
On a serious note, I bet MLK would be ashamed of the current buffoons who "claim" to carry his torch (JJ & AS). I personally have no real heartfelt opinion of the man, as I was two yrs old when he died and I grew up in an all white middle class part of the country where race issues really did not come up. I have noticed though that the folks who marched with him in the day, seemed to truly desire equal rights (which they deserved)....not special rights (quotas, reparations.....which they didn't). While I will never know what it is like to be black, I would think that if I was, I would not feel comfortable knowing I got into college or got a job based on my skin color as opposed to earning it.
I have ZERO respect for JJ & AS, I have lots of respect for Bill Cosby.... MLK? Well from my viewpoint he championed a good cause in his time, but I think the JJ & AS's have tried to ride the civil rights movement too far in today's society and now are causing division rather than promoting "equality".
Sorry if I offend anyone here, but this is truly how "I" see it.
