I worked 65-75 hours a week (sometimes more, rarely less) while working as a salaried manager at a retail auto parts store. This was in the late 90's. I made $21k/yr plus bonuses for a total of about $26k. It didn't take long for me to figure out that I needed to go another direction.

Now I work 8-5 (sometimes 7-4 or 9-6). I occasionally work an hour or two late here and there. I am on call 1 week out of every 6, but I get a little extra money for that week. And I make a lot more money. I'm still not rich by any means, but I'm doing ok.
