If you do a search on google for "speed test" you'll find hundreds of sites that do speed tests. I'd recommend testing on at least 3 sites. Some sites work better than others.

How fast should cable broadband Internet be? Depends, how fast does the cable company say it can be? many these days are at 6Mb down and some amount up usually 1Mb or less. But, if you're in a subdivision with lots of other folks using the internet, it may be slower. Also, some sites are slower than others.

How fast should wireless be. Depends upon signal strength and the amount of wireless noise.

Most wifi connections can negotiate anywhere from 1Mb --> 54Mb or some even advertise 108Mb. Really, so long as your connection is at least as fast as your cable, that's all that matters. I'd expect most wifi connections to connect at 6, 11, 22 or 54 Mb. but it could also connect at 1 or 3 Mb.
