I love that bit.

A few years ago I used to get called by some fundraising company on behalf of the Fraternal Order of Police. They would call 5-6 times a day. Leave messages, etc. They would hire the gruffest-sounding, most forceful men to do the fundraising--I suppose to make you think you were talking to a cop.

After about the 30th call in two weeks, I finally answered the phone. The guy did his spiel and ended with: "And I'm happy to hear that I can put you down for a $300 donation."

I simply said: "I'm involved with a lawsuit with the state police, and I don't think it will help my case if I give them money."

I simply got: "Oh." And a dial tone. At least I never got called again.
