Right.

At exactly 1 second before one AM, the tool goes "DING-dong" and you must quickly snap-down a 15A fuse into space 4, thus initiating the clock at the pre-set "1:00". If you miss it, you have to wait till the next night.

Or you can choose to live with the shortcomings of a 12-hour clock and start your fuse next afternoon at one. But your BMW will know you are using the clock parameter falsely and so will start surging and otherwise revealing its displeasure. The ODFIV codes and MoDiTeC diagnostic machine will show error codes (two red lights alternatively flashing). The dealer's BMW technician will soon identify your mistake and their training specifies that they have to re-set your clock at the factory-rated time of 43 minutes labor since clock errors are not covered by the warranty (it's in the fine print, hope you read it).

For an extra $11.95, you can buy the auxiliary socket test bulb set that lights when fuse 4 is functioning. This is diagnostic for clock failures not due to fuse failures. You don't need to buy your own. All BMW dealers are required to have one in their shop because it helps the wrenches efficiently build up your billed time.

Works the same for the Canbus R1200S except all the prices are 20% higher due to the supplementary training the technicians need.

It's been a long hard winter and barely midway yet.
