What do you considering to be "sitting around a long time?" I've noticed most 748/996 series bikes have around 1K, or less, miles per year. I'd think that's a bit low...? But it does seem to be above average. I assumed the preferred location for maintenance is the dealer?

I'd put on a fair bit more than the average 1K/year, I would think. Figure it's 23 miles each way to work, 4 days a week...That's 184 miles a week just in work traveling.

Are valve adjustments DIY-able? Any modifications to avoid?
