yes, there is a lot of bad info and you have posted some of it.
yes, a 964 and 993 g50 are interchangeble no sweat at all.
yes, a 915 and early g50 are sort of swapable w/ a lot of work, but they are at least sort of close to each other.
The degree of difficulty of going from a 915 or an early g50 to a later g50 is orders of magnitude greater.
Here are all of the transmission variants used thru '879 911, yes the g50 is slightly bigger but the are all similarly mounted
