I was once stuck in Sanaa, Yemen back in the eighties, for three days because they obviously could not find one single plane that was not broken in some way.
It was one of those sublime moments in life you never forget. Took forever to get onboard the first plane and then it never took off. I had a window seat by the left wing. Two airline bloks on the ground under the wing one of which had a long stick he kept poking at the wing. Then he took forth a large piece of paper that looked like some kind of map. Both of them starred at it for a minute. Then, suddenly, the other chap turned the map up side down, they both nodded at each other and smiled and proceeded poking with the long stick for a while. That is when I started to really feel sick to my stomach. Ten minutes later we were asked to leave the plane..
