Yup, I couldn't agree more. I had an encounter with a similar cop just Sunday morning when I dropped my girlfriend off at LAX about 9 am. Motorcycle cop with a TOTAL attitude. FOr anyone that isn't familiar, LAX is a horseshoe. You are required to drive 25 mph max. I was in the middle lane approaching the start of the curve (to the left). Cop sitting on his bike, as I go past he flips on his lights and goes AROUND me from behind to the lane to my left. He is behind an SUV slightly in front of me. I look down at my speed because, hey...it's a cop. I'm doing like 18-19 mph. As I pass I am looking in my rearview mirror to see who he's pulling over - woman driving, man passenger who appears Middle Eastern...I figure its related, who knows? SUddenly, he's behind me with lights on. I pull over, he walks up and in a voice just slightly lower than a shout says, "Didn't you see me pulling over that car?" I respond, yes I did, what did I do? He says, "You went flying past me. You are required to pull over to the left (??!). You endangered me and I don't appreciate it. I said, "Gee, I'm sorry but I wasn't even doing 20 and I was pulling over..." I didn't get ot finish as he is now talking even louder. Still hasn't taken off his helmet or mirrored sunglasses. He tells me, "Don't argue with me" I said, I'm not arguing..." "Yes, you are, I';m telling you, you endangered me....." blah, blah, blah. Clearly he REQUIRED meekness, wanted to make me look down (I wouldn't) he was an asshat. He takes my license, he goes to check me for warrants, stays gone while comes back and starts in again. Everything short of finger wagging me. I am FRIGGIN pi$$ed and I'm sure it shows but I only say, "Yes, and uh huh". When we get left to go and pull up literally 100 feet way at her terminal, my girlfriend says, "We're lucky he let us off". I can't even respond. He "let us off" for doing NOTHING! The guy he was going to stop he let go!!! Okay, so maybe I should have stopped dead in the middle of the road. I'm even willing to acknowledge he may not have been looking at me and I frightened him, whatever. I've never heard of pulling over to the left. I have ALWAYS pulled over right and stopped when red lights flash or just stop dead if I can't. My issue is this guys (and the guy in the video link) attitude. I see it over and over and over. I honestly do. The 'tude just drips off these guys.
I am SICK of the too-much-testosterone, tailored uniform-to-showoff-my-impressive-biceps, I've-got-EVERY-piece-of-tech-crap-in-its-own-leather-carrier-on-my-belt kind of cop. These guys regard cops as "us" and all of the rest of us as "them". I used to think cops like this were the exception and perhaps they are but more and more I think the reasonable, normal cops are the exception. If you're a cop you MUST know these jacka$$e$ are out there in number. They test these guys for aptitude and for physical prowess, but not for emotional stability enough to suit me. Rant over. If you know me you know I'm a middle aged guy who is normally soft spoken and respectful of people in general. I;m out...but STILL pi$$ed off!
