Yes there is racism in some places, yes there are inequalities in some places, but I neither contributed to or benefited from them.
My legacy? Hardly. That had absolutely nothing to do with me getting where I am. I earned every single bit of what I have. I started with absolutely nothing except a minimum wage job pumping gas. I worked hard, I paid my dues, I kept my mouth shut and took orders, I paid for my schooling.
I had the same challenges, the only difference is I didn't have the same excuses. Maybe if i had a built-in excuse I wouldn't have tried so hard.
sorry Sam, but you benefited from the mere fact of being white. Your race and gender made opportunities available to you that were not equally available to other races. I have no doubt you worked hard to get where you are, and earned what you have. That isn't what I'm talking about. It is about the ways that society has favored white males. You did not face the same challenges as a black man. Or a Chinese immigrant. Or a Hispanic.
