I drilled on out one time on my 81 (lug nut sheared off down on the wheel) and they told me the new one would never go in without pulling the hub, but it did...you simply simultaneously rotate the hub and angle the stud in from the back side and it should drop right into the hole. Drawing it up is another hassle, but can also be done on the car. I'm amazed you could hammer the old on out.
