The good cops are fewer than you think, and when they pipe up about wrong doings they ruin their career (no promotion) and are threatened in and out of the department, as well as having their vehicle vandalized while its parked in the police parking lot. I have five close friends who are police officers and two of which work in the same dept. One spoke out against the blue and the other one didn't. It's been years since the incident occurred and the effects are astounding when you compare the careers of both individuals.
The incident I'm referring to was in national news now and again for almost two years. The fact of the matter is that even the "good cops" keep their mouths shut no matter what because of the consequences they will endure from breaking the blue code. I am probably as close as you can get to being inside the system without wearing a badge. What defines a "good cop" to me is how they handle themselves as an individual while performing their duties. Even good cops make mistakes. Obviously corruption and misconduct exist in every city but to different degrees depending on what city you live in. The city I live in has serious issues however on both sides of the law.
