Only learning by doing
I've been thinking about and researching camshafts since I got reignited about the 928 a year or so ago, but last night is the first time I pulled a cam tower off a motor. I've wandered around several shops with 928 motors apart, but it never clicked in my brain until I saw it right in front of me, that on a 16v motor at least the cam goes in from the end, and the cam tower doesn't really "open".
Explains a lot of the restrictions on the lobe profiles, people kept telling me it was because they had to fit through the cam bearing journals, now it makes sense.
