I would pull up & check the carpets carefully.
Also, I'd start "flushing" dry air thru every orifice in the body below 24" - not 14" right away. A fan with ducting or a blower is the way to do that.
This sounds good - but only if the couple are rock-solid honest and well-informed on the flooding.
The flood was very dirty and toxic - esp. in New Orleans. Rita (SW La.) would have been cleaner but a lot of mirex was in the water - it is a very nasty insecticide and highly persistent. It is used all over the south to kill fire ants.
