I am surprised that car dealers where you live still act like that. In my town we only have a few car dealers although they handle all the major manufacturers. They all know everyone goes to kbb.com or edmunds.com to find out what cars are selling for and what their trade in is worth. That tends to be their starting point for negotiations.
