I don't need no history lesson. I know they did a lot of good back then. But right now, they are doing more damage to companies then they did good when they were needed.
As long as GM can have 10 maintenance electricians walking around at $42/hour, of which 2 are actually doing all the working and 8 are sitting in the coffee room playing cards all day and not be able to fire those 8 because of the union, then something is seriously wrong. Just an example. And you wonder why GM and other car companies are moving production abroad and closing plants in the US? And you have to wonder about why US industry not doing too well?
You are just one step away from what happened in the UK. They don't have any industry anymore. It was all destroyed in the 70's and 80's by the unions and their strikes.
