First, to shoot nice slo-mo stuff it helps to shoot in higher frames-per-second; there are some cams that can do this.
Regarding a more universal format, most any camera should be able to do what you want, the critical part is what software the video is processed in and what format it is finally saved in.
Also, most decent video processing software should be able to open all of the popular formats.
