We can disagree bitterly about most things (and seem to) and that's not even slightly troubling. But when dialog degrades from attacking the messages to attacking the messenger, that's when it becomes toxic. I've seen it even spill over into other parts of this BBS and that's totally inappropriate. Many reasonable voices in OT have been driven into lurking by a couple recurrences of blatant racist threads. And what's left is a diminished community.

Re-reading your post before publishing, and asking: Am I showing respect for the 'other guy?' will usually prevent the toxicity. I believe there is a published policy against ad hominem arguments. And if not, it's a good rule to use for yourself.
