I failed to read this forum before doing such test. It is done however. The question is: If the negative cable from the battery is disconnected while the engine is running; should the engine stop immediately after disconnecting the cable if the alt is bad?
I have an alternator on hand -or somewhere in my garage rather- so getting the part isn't really the issue. I'd just rather not remove the alt in the car not knowing (or having a high degree of certainty) if it is bad or not.
Engine off (not running) 12.3V
Engine Iddling (@<1000rpms) 14.1V
Do these number look ok? I just drove the car for about 40 minutes total, not continuously but almost, and I couldn't detect any problems. How much weight should I put on the Sears disgnostic results?
