That happened to me before, although I got lucky and got my item before they disappeared. I bought a pair of golf shoes from an eBay seller who had 99% positive feedback, and something like 25,000 feedbacks, over many years.
At some point, they decided to just take the money and run, and went for a long time just taking people's money and not sending anything out! They had dozens and dozens of sales per day. From what I could tell, they took hundreds of thousands of dollars, and just disappeared.
