obviously hidden spaces are not air/water tight
common sense and physics still says -
if the water can get in then it's not air tight. it might take a long time, but it would eventually dry out on it's own. and i don't believe in the meantime rust holes would appear.
that all i was saying - VERY small drain holes drilled could be appropiate.
