Help with NYC CCW and FFL Issue
Hi,
I posted this in a gun forum and then I remembered that you guys seem to know about most things. I need a little help and some brainstorming. Here's my issue. My Dad passed away in October of last year. Unfortunately, he passed away in his car with one of his firearms, a Glock 19. To make matters worse, this occurred in New York City where the gun laws are incredible. By the way, my Dad was a retired correction officer with a permit to carry. Of course all of my Dad's property could not be collected until I received proper certification from NY Surrogates Court which I now have. I also had all the vouchers for the property found in the car with the exception of one. You guessed it, the Glock 19 and ammo. I finally convinced a detective (I think he became tired of my phone calls) who worked the case to fax me the voucher which I now have. Now on to the part to which I need help. I can't legally pick up the Glock because I do not have a NYC permit. They will not release it to me without one. My thought is to ask a friend of my Dad with a permit to receive the firearm and then transfer it to me. My other thought is to possibly find a FFL in NY who can then transfer it to a FFL in CA (the geography makes the problem even worse). What do you guys think of my options? Any other suggestions? Also, does a FFL have the ability to transport on his person, a firearm? Lastly, does anyone know of a NYC FFL that will accompany me to retrieve the firearm? Sorry for the long post but I really need to find a solution.
