CUPERTINO, California -- The Jobsfather and Co. made a slurry of iPhone related announcements today. Here are 5 big ones:
1. SDK: Developers are now allowed to create apps for the iPhone and sell them in Apple's iTunes store. You just have to plop down $99 to publish your app.
2. Enhanced User Experience: iPhone owners will be able to browse and buy these apps via their iPhones, wirelessly.
3. VOiP: Sure you can develop the most kick ass VOiP program in history, but Apple will only allow calls to be made over Wi-Fi.
(Can you imagine when someone equips an iPod Touch with Skype? Now that's one hot little device. Thanks, Mark!)
4. Corporate Features: Suits rejoice. Your iPhone is getting push email, push calendar, push contacts, VPN (by Cisco), WPA2/ 802.1x, device configuration, and Remote Wipe. And (queue brass trumpets) Exchange.
5. iFund: It's a $100,000,000 bankroll for developers. If you've got a free app, Apple won't charge you anything for hosting or processing. If you charge for your app, Apple takes 30% of your set price.
