CAUTION. You can NO LONGER source the early 911 aluminum vin tags from Porsche.

I found this out the hard way after I had already bought a Porsche that needed one. The story is that the die wore out and Porsche did not find it worthwhile to replace it. They sold their supply and that is it. [In fairness to Porsche, I cannot blame them. They have taken a bath on many of the parts that they have made available to restorers. Example: RSL front and rear bumpers.]

I have seen some on the market, usually from Germany or UK and usually VERY expensive. I have heard of alleged replicas but I have never seen one that I could detect.. Most of the very few that are out there do not have the TYPE with the reverse stamping on them and I have no idea where one might get this done. Replicating the other numbers shouldn't be too big a deal. I have also heard that certain well know restoration experts have sources for all of this but no one is talking. GOOD LUCK and I say buy it if the other numbers are ok.
