I've noticed that. I believe it's mostly the consequence of the economically depressed conditions in so many of the southern states and the concommitant lower number of people living there who find it very difficult to get a decent education. I'm sure you'll agree people are people and we're all Americans. Also, the south doesn't have a lock on ignorance and reprehensibility; such individuals are found across the country from White Plains, NY to Orange County, CA (see below).
