Joe, although I'd be tempted to call BS as well they
may be correct.
He was told it was not possible with his particular machine.
Apple employ a chip on their MB's, without it OS X will not (without a hack) install on a an Intel based machine.
They did that to specifically prevent people from buying a copy of OS X and installing it on a Dell, Gateway etc...
So while the guys may not have known their a55es from their elbows it is plausible.
